documents.<\/p>\n<p>Photographs.<\/p>\n<p>Estimate.<\/p>\n<p>Authorization form.<\/p>\n<p>And then a contractor agreement.<\/p>\n<p>I read the first page once.<\/p>\n<p>Then again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat company is Northwest Crest Roofing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marlene stood very still.<\/p>\n<p>Gerald answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA contractor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you know them?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey turned back to the portal.<\/p>\n<p>The authorization form was a scanned image, but the text was readable.<\/p>\n<p>I enlarged the signature section.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Hart.<\/p>\n<p>Relationship to property: OWNER\/OCCUPANT.<\/p>\n<p>My breath caught.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel read over my shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t check that box.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gerald\u2019s expression changed.<\/p>\n<p>Just barely.<\/p>\n<p>I looked up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho did?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Then Olivia appeared in the hallway wearing one of Emma\u2019s old sweatshirts.<\/p>\n<p>Her face was pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw Grandpa do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Every head turned.<\/p>\n<p>Gerald stared at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOlivia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She flinched, but kept speaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast Uncle Daniel signed on the tablet and went outside.
