MERCER.<\/p>\n<p>My breath stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad\u2019s?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Natalie nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat makes no sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarcus had it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Claire looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>Dad used microcassette recorders.<\/p>\n<p>We had just found one of his tapes in locker 214.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas it the recorder from the plant?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened to it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Natalie shook her head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never saw it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My skin prickled.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus had possessed one of Dad\u2019s recorders after the accident.<\/p>\n<p>That meant one of two things.<\/p>\n<p>Either he stole it from Dad.<\/p>\n<p>Or Dad had given it to him.<\/p>\n<p>Neither possibility felt good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you tell Keller?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy not?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t understand why it mattered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw your wedding picture with Richard\u2019s suit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That answer surprised me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does that have to do with a recorder?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She looked embarrassed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it made me remember your father labeling everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course.<\/p>\n<p>Dad labeled tools.<\/p>\n<p>Boxes.<\/p>\n<p>Drawers.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently recorders too.<\/p>\n<p>Natalie looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recorder had a strip of white tape across the back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did it say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her expression tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember because it was strange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDANNY \u2014 FIRST TRY.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at her.<\/p>\n<p>Claire whispered, \u201cFirst try at what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Natalie shook her head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But I did know one thing.<\/p>\n<p>Dad had begun recording something for me long before the package Thomas kept.<\/p>\n<p>And somehow Marcus had taken it.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastestdrama.com\/?p=2524\">Click here to continue reading: PART 31: Marcus Had Taken Dad\u2019s First Recorded Confession, and When We Confronted Him He Finally Explained Why Richard Started Hiding Everything<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Natalie chose the meeting place herself.
