Heard him saying he needed to go pick somebody up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you recognized the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There it was.<\/p>\n<p>No accident.<\/p>\n<p>Not yet the crash.<\/p>\n<p>But the decision before it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou gave him the key because if he picked me up\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019d leave the car and probably your backpack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy folder was inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you could take it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou didn\u2019t care that he\u2019d been drinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told myself he wasn\u2019t that drunk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evan stood from across the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou watched me drink.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou gave me more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evan sat again.<\/p>\n<p>No shouting.<\/p>\n<p>Some truths no longer benefited from volume.<\/p>\n<p>I looked down at my old note.<\/p>\n<p>I had known.<\/p>\n<p>I had been going home to tell Dad.<\/p>\n<p>Then Marcus created a delay.<\/p>\n<p>Then followed.<\/p>\n<p>Then sideswiped me.<\/p>\n<p>Then Evan reached the intersection.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Marcus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou didn\u2019t just want the folder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His face tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I held up my note.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going to tell Dad from memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou could burn the statement and I would still know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI panicked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo what was the actual plan?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t have one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had several.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBad ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened after you realized I had already left?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus sat.<\/p>\n<p>He looked older suddenly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI followed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to get you to pull over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTalk you out of going home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou thought that was possible?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The honesty was almost insulting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou keep saying you didn\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His voice rose for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was twenty, scared, in debt, and had just realized the person I\u2019d been stealing from had proof.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you followed me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPulled beside me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTried to force me over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHit me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus\u2019s face crumpled slightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd after that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI backed off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause you were scared?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen Evan hit me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou saw it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou went to my car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTook the folder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd left me there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus closed his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at my handwritten note.<\/p>\n<p>Then at the man who had stolen it from an unconscious version of me.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, memory no longer mattered.<\/p>\n<p>I did not need to remember every second to know what I had intended before the crash.<\/p>\n<p>I had written it down.<\/p>\n<p>I was going home.<\/p>\n<p>I was going to tell Dad.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus had not erased that decision.<\/p>\n<p>Only delayed it for fourteen years.<\/p>\n<p>I turned another page in the folder.<\/p>\n<p>A second handwritten note lay underneath.<\/p>\n<p>Not mine.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Dated six years after the accident.<\/p>\n<p>At the top were five words.<\/p>\n<p>Richard, you were right about me.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastestdrama.com\/?p=2519\">Click here to continue reading: PART 26: Marcus\u2019s Six-Year-Old Confession Explained Why Dad Never Destroyed the Evidence, and One Sentence Finally Restored My Missing Memory<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nobody spoke after Marcus quoted the note.
