But I knew Marcus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I searched memory.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus knew half the town.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told Richard I could get you and the car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he agreed?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evan rubbed his face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe asked how old I was. I told him seventeen. He said absolutely not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That sounded like Dad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe told me to forget it.
