Family Holdings was managed by Sarah.<\/p>\n<p>The loan applications were tied to her.<\/p>\n<p>Her credit card paid the document service.<\/p>\n<p>My personal information sat in her possession.<\/p>\n<p>Mark positioned himself to acquire half the asset only after the property moved into her company.<\/p>\n<p>If the scheme collapsed early, Sarah appeared central.<\/p>\n<p>If it the other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe knew about the first forged deed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe gave him your information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe took Leo\u2019s money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe hid debt from me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He swallowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs that pathetic?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked surprised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLove doesn\u2019t slowly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI kept saying Leo needed stability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I also needed comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I said nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe house let me avoid seeing what our finances were actually like. No rent meant we could keep spending. Your insurance meant one less bill. Your phone plan. Groceries. Repairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked ashamed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought because we weren\u2019t asking you for cash, we were independent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was perceptive enough to hurt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou were asking. Just indirectly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pulled an envelope from his jacket.<\/p>\n<p>For one terrible second, I thought it contained another legal document.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, it was a check.<\/p>\n<p>Nine thousand dollars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBathroom restoration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI moved money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom where?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy retirement account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He stiffened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are not draining retirement to fix this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s my responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes. But there may be losses connected to attempted fraud, lender expenses, and other conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I leaned against the hallway wall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does he want from me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing yet.
