asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trustee requested additional information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom who?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Travis frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never received anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin looked surprised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorrespondence was sent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo where?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He checked.<\/p>\n<p>Then read an address.<\/p>\n<p>Lorraine\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p>Travis stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was my old mailing address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had changed residence?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYears earlier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid your mother forward the notices?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We already knew the answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen what happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issue remained unresolved because there was no immediate distribution request for Zia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Mom created a challenge and then made sure I never answered it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin looked uncomfortable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat appears possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Possible.<\/p>\n<p>The polite legal word for something ugly.<\/p>\n<p>I thought of Lorraine insisting labels should mean something.<\/p>\n<p>They did.<\/p>\n<p>She had spent years constructing evidence around hers.<\/p>\n<p>Travis sat again.<\/p>\n<p>His face was pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I respond now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you need?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDocumentation showing your relationship with Zia before Frank\u2019s death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We almost laughed.<\/p>\n<p>Not because it was funny.<\/p>\n<p>Because we had too much.<\/p>\n<p>Photos.<\/p>\n<p>School forms.<\/p>\n<p>Medical records.<\/p>\n<p>Family messages.<\/p>\n<p>Videos.<\/p>\n<p>Birthday cards Frank himself had signed to Zia.<\/p>\n<p>One suddenly came to mind.<\/p>\n<p>Her fourth birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Frank had written, To our funny little granddaughter\u2014keep asking big questions.<\/p>\n<p>I remembered because Zia had loved the picture of a giraffe on the front.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrank called her granddaughter,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>Martin looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn writing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Travis stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe might still have the card.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That mattered more than Lorraine\u2019s manufactured emails.<\/p>\n<p>Maya smiled for the first time during the call.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFind it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Afterward, Travis went straight to the storage closet.<\/p>\n<p>Boxes came out.<\/p>\n<p>Birthday decorations.<\/p>\n<p>School crafts.<\/p>\n<p>Old photographs.<\/p>\n<p>Zia eventually wandered downstairs and found both of us sitting on the floor surrounded by years of her childhood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking for a card Grandpa Frank gave you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her face lit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe giraffe one?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I froze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou remember it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you know where it is?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She thought for about ten seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my treasure box.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course.<\/p>\n<p>Children preserve the evidence adults lose.<\/p>\n<p>She ran upstairs.<\/p>\n<p>Less than a minute later she returned carrying a pink wooden box with a broken latch.<\/p>\n<p>Inside were stickers.<\/p>\n<p>A smooth stone.<\/p>\n<p>Two foreign coins.<\/p>\n<p>A movie ticket.<\/p>\n<p>Several birthday cards.<\/p>\n<p>And Frank\u2019s giraffe.<\/p>\n<p>Zia handed it to Travis.<\/p>\n<p>He opened it.<\/p>\n<p>His father\u2019s handwriting filled the inside.<\/p>\n<p>Happy 4th Birthday, Zia. To our funny little granddaughter\u2014keep asking big questions. Love, Grandpa Frank.<\/p>\n<p>Travis stopped breathing.<\/p>\n<p>Zia looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He touched the writing with one finger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy are you crying?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Only then did I see the tear on his cheek.<\/p>\n<p>He wiped it quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I miss Grandpa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zia nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMe too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She leaned against him.<\/p>\n<p>Travis wrapped one arm around her while still holding the card.<\/p>\n<p>For years, Lorraine had insisted biology was truth.<\/p>\n<p>Yet Frank, before lawyers and trusts and arguments, had already written the truth in birthday-card ink.<\/p>\n<p>Our granddaughter.<\/p>\n<p>No qualification.<\/p>\n<p>No loophole.<\/p>\n<p>No guest.<\/p>\n<p>Zia pointed at the card.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I keep it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Travis looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s yours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She returned it to the treasure box.<\/p>\n<p>Later that afternoon, Maya sent a message.<\/p>\n<p>The card, combined with other records, should be more than enough to defeat Lorraine\u2019s old objection.<\/p>\n<p>Then came another line.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a separate issue.<\/p>\n<p>I called Martin again.<\/p>\n<p>Frank left a sealed memorandum to be opened if Lorraine ever formally disputed Zia\u2019s place in the family trust.<\/p>\n<p>Travis read it twice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does it say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maya replied.<\/p>\n<p>Martin will release it tomorrow.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastestdrama.com\/?p=1479\">Click here to continue reading: PART 14: Frank\u2019s Sealed Memorandum Named the One Person He Feared Lorraine Would Use Against Zia\u2014and Predicted Exactly What Happened<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Martin Keene agreed to speak with us the following morning.
