He took them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he force you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laura started crying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That had not been in earlier statements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy didn\u2019t you say that before?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I thought it would sound like I was trying to avoid responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I leaned back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWere you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt first, probably.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That honesty mattered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he hit you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThreaten you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said if I kept resisting, he would leave me on the side of the road with the boys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I closed my eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Still not enough.<\/p>\n<p>She could have stayed.<\/p>\n<p>Could have called someone.<\/p>\n<p>Could have walked.<\/p>\n<p>But I understood why she framed it as force.<\/p>\n<p>Brent took control physically.<\/p>\n<p>Then she got into the passenger seat rather than staying with the children on the roadside.<\/p>\n<p>Both things could be true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are prosecutors doing with that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said it matters to the endangerment count but doesn\u2019t erase what happened after.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reasonable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you want me to know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat I didn\u2019t calmly hand him the keys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I thought about every version I had held.<\/p>\n<p>Laura giving up the wheel.<\/p>\n<p>Laura being manipulated.<\/p>\n<p>Laura participating.<\/p>\n<p>Now another layer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She went silent.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first time I had said those words to her in weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still responsible,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This time the phrase did not irritate me.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the call, Laura asked one thing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Rick ever asks whether I tried to stop Brent from driving, please tell him the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat truth?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I understood the question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whole one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She cried quietly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That night Rick asked nothing about the case.<\/p>\n<p>He wanted help building a cardboard bridge for school.<\/p>\n<p>We cut strips.<\/p>\n<p>Tested weight.<\/p>\n<p>The first version collapsed under six soup cans.<\/p>\n<p>The second held nine.<\/p>\n<p>He changed the supports.<\/p>\n<p>The third held twelve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy does triangle stuff make it stronger?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause it spreads force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at the little paper trusses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo instead of one part taking everything, lots of parts share it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExactly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He considered that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople should work like bridges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I almost laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen one person wouldn\u2019t have to carry all the bad stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He returned to the cardboard.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>Children sometimes say the thing adults spend years circling.<\/p>\n<p>The next morning Agent Park called.<\/p>\n<p>They had reconstructed more of Cynthia\u2019s recording.<\/p>\n<p>There was one final fragment before the phone shut off.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n<p>Then Brent\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret said:<\/p>\n<p>If Voss refuses Gerald and gets past Raymond, do not improvise.<\/p>\n<p>Brent answered:<\/p>\n<p>Then what?<\/p>\n<p>Margaret\u2019s response had been partially obscured.<\/p>\n<p>Forensic audio cleaned enough to recover three words.<\/p>\n<p>Call your mother.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing more.<\/p>\n<p>No murder order.<\/p>\n<p>No explicit violence.<\/p>\n<p>Just hierarchy.<\/p>\n<p>When control failed, Brent was supposed to return to Margaret.<\/p>\n<p>And every path through the Harlow family now ended at the same quiet woman who had spent decades making herself look secondary.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastestdrama.com\/?p=1095\">Click here to continue reading: PART 26: Brent\u2019s Cooperation Finally Exposed Why He Feared His Mother More Than His Father, and the Crash Became His Last Failed Attempt to Escape<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Agent Park did not let me hear Cynthia Vale\u2019s recording.
