Nine tomorrow morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan checked the time.<\/p>\n<p>Less than twenty-four hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClaire filed a competing motion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan sat upright.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTemporary custody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan\u2019s voice went cold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter last night?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn what basis?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grace exhaled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is alleging you are exploiting a misunderstanding to isolate Lily and that your military obligations make you unable to provide stable day-to-day care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan looked toward the ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe assaulted our daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer filing describes the event differently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an ill-conceived family prank that escalated when Lily became frightened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan\u2019s grip tightened around the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA prank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is her position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the hair pulling?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe says Meredith was preventing Lily from running into the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe driveway video shows exactly where Lily was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe matches?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe claims Lily never faced actual danger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lie they told her to repeat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClaire\u2019s attorney has not addressed the voice memo yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan suddenly understood why Grace sounded almost calm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey filed before receiving all the evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was also my thought.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan looked toward Marcus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat else is Claire asking for?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grace hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA temporary order preventing you from relocating Lily or taking her onto any military installation without Claire\u2019s consent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan almost laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe planned to take Lily across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will address that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnything else?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grace\u2019s voice changed slightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is also asking that Lily have no contact with Marcus Reed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus raised his eyebrows.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy Marcus?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClaire claims he is your enforcer and that his involvement frightened the family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus mouthed, Enforcer?<\/p>\n<p>Nathan ignored him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe stayed behind the police line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich the reports confirm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does Claire think removing Marcus accomplishes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grace answered immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt removes one of the people Lily currently trusts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan became still.<\/p>\n<p>There it was again.<\/p>\n<p>Not merely legal positioning.<\/p>\n<p>Isolation.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the father when he travels.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the neighbor by discrediting her.<\/p>\n<p>Remove Marcus.<\/p>\n<p>Control who Lily can reach.<\/p>\n<p>Grace continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTomorrow will not decide the entire case.
